Worship Service – October 23, 2022

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM120 Park St, Bangor, ME
~ How Can I Help? ~ When I heard that Rev. Drew needed to be with his father because of health concerns, I responded how can I help? We are all invited in so many ways to respond to the needs of others. We as Unitarian Universalists often say that we are a religion not of creeds but of deeds. I want to explore some of the implications of that claim. This service will be led by Rev. Charles J. Stephens with Laurie Cartier, Sue McKay, and Atticus Foster as our worship team. Music will be provided by the Molly J. Webster and Jack Derosier. Meet Our Guest Minister: Rev. Charles J. Stephens
Rev. Charles J. Stephens

Charles Stephens is Minister Emeritus of the UU Congregation in Washington Crossing in Titusville, NJ and also of the UU Congregation in Ellsworth, ME. He and Alison, his wife, retired to Blue Hill, ME in 2012 where they rent out two seasonal cabins they built on their property. Charles continues to be a guest speaker at UU congregations and provides individual Spiritual Direction for colleagues and laypeople.

Charles grew up in a small town in northern Wisconsin, near Garrison Kieler’s Lake Wobegone. He was ordained as a Lutheran Minister in 1973 but by 1980 realized Lutheranism had one Reformation and that was all they wanted, so he transferred into the Unitarian Universalist Ministry.

During sabbaticals, Charles studied Eastern European Unitarianism in Oxford, England, studied with Matthew Fox at the University of Culture and Creation Spirituality, and then trained with the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Guidance & Direction after which he joined their adjunct staff for ten years.

Charles and Alison have three adult children: Heather in Washington DC, Bronson in Bucksport, ME, and Charlotte in Philadelphia, PA.
