Time Period: December 29, 2024 – May 31, 2025
Hours: 15 hours per week
Pay Range: $20-25/hour
Supervision: Reports to and supervised by the minister

Location: Bangor, Maine
The role of Spiritual Education Program Coordinator at UUSB is to manage and support an experiential learning program grounded in our Unitarian Universalist values. These values include nurturing spiritual exploration, ethical growth and social responsibility taught through the lens of inclusion, compassion, and curiosity. Responsibilities include supporting volunteer teachers in established age specific curriculums. In addition, a successful candidate will inspire children to appreciate diversity, practice empathy, and develop a sense of purpose.
Description of Duties:
- Create a welcoming and hospitable environment for children and families
- Attend and act in the role of supervisor of SE activities for two Sundays per month
- Coordinate occasional whole group activities with Spiritual Education volunteers and Reverend Drew that will occur on Sunday in lieu of regular classes that week
- Purchase, maintain, and organize all program supplies, equipment, and materials within a set budget and according to protocols.
- Ensure that the needed Spiritual Education volunteer staff are available for Sunday activities and find substitutes as needed
- Maintain registration and attendance records of all students and teacher volunteers
- Coach, support, and, when needed, recruit volunteers
- Distribute and collect background check forms for new SEE program volunteers
- Communicate with the Hersey trustees which teachers, youth and parents qualify for summer camp scholarships
- Attend Spiritual Education Action League (SEAL), monthly staff meetings and other UUSB meetings as needed
- Respond to emails from teachers, parents, and community members
- Maintain communication with the church and greater community through a weekly social media update, email to congregation, and a monthly column in the church newsletter
- Submit an end of the year report to the UUSB Annual Report
- Coordinate the May SEE celebration service in collaboration with Rev. Drew and SEAL
- Help with the coordination of the Junior Our Whole Lives program
Skills: A successful candidate will have experience in the following
- Managing and working with volunteers with diverse teaching experience
- Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Working knowledge of electronic communication systems including email, texting, and Facebook
- Can articulate Unitarian Universalist values
- Is adaptable and open to finding creative ways of working with children with a variety of styles
