Requesting a Hersey Bequest Scholarship

Form will be available starting during Fall 2025 for Summer 2026 camps.
The deadline for scholarship requests is April 15 every year.

About Hersey Bequest Scholarships

Below, you will find important information regarding the Hersey Bequest Scholarships for attending camps at Ferry Beach and/or other approved youth camps. Below you will find info on the scholarships themselves, as well as which camps you can use the scholarship money for, how to make payments, and how to register. Please be sure to fill out the Scholarship form and return it as soon as possible.

Please Note: You must register for camps directly with the camp; UUSB does not register youths or adults for any program. UUSB will confirm registration and pay the appropriate amount directly to the camp.

Hersey Bequest Adult Scholarship

The Hersey Bequest Fund will allow one Adult Scholarship per family for the Ferry Beach Family & Friends week. To qualify, there must be a qualifying youth receiving a Hersey Bequest Youth Scholarship for Ferry Beach Family & Friends week.

UUSB Members will need to cover $350 of the FB registration fee (payable to UUSB), the balance will be covered by Hersey Funding.

Non UUSB Members will need to cover 50% of FB registration fee, with the balance being covered by Hersey Funding.

Any additional adults from the same family must register for and directly pay Ferry Beach the full Ferry Beach cost. See their website or call their registration line for more details.

Hersey Bequest Teacher Scholarship

For their service to our Community, the Hersey Bequest Fund offers a scholarship to our Spiritual Exploration Teachers and Facilitators, including Sunday classes and OWL, to attend Ferry Beach’s Family & Friends Camp. To qualify, teachers and facilitators must attend at least 50% of the classes they are volunteering for.

Teachers will need to cover $175 of the FB registration fee (payable to UUSB), the balance will be covered by Hersey Funding.

Non UUSB Members will need to cover 50% of FB registration fee, with the balance being covered by Hersey Funding.

Teacher Scholarships may be used in addition to, or instead of, the Adult Scholarship.

Hersey Bequest Youth Scholarship

Youth, ages 9-18, are covered, in full, for one week of Family & Friends Camp at Ferry Beach. Children 0-8 years old are free.

Youth ages 6-18 are also eligible for up to one week of a youth camp approved by the Hersey Bequest Trustees. Specific camp information will be sent out each Fall/Winter ahead of the upcoming scholarship season.

Program Eligibility & Administration Guidelines

Youth must be registered with the UUSB Spiritual Exploration Experience (SEE) program for the current year.
Youth must be between the ages of 9 and 18 (0-8 are free) for Ferry Beach.
Youth must regularly attend the program(s) they are enrolled in.
- This means a minimum of 50% of potential participation dates, including classes, youth chapels, holiday events, and intergenerational services.
- If there are extenuating circumstances preventing youths from meeting the 50% requirement, please contact the Hersey Bequest Trustees and/or director of the SE program to arrange other options or a special exception.
When you apply for a scholarship, you will be added to a contact list to notify you of your eligibility status (approved, on track, at risk, denied). This information will be sent out periodically through the program year, with a final notice after SE Celebration Sunday in May.
Scholarship applicants must register with the appropriate camp directly. For Ferry Beach, inform them you are part of UUSB.
Scholarship applicants must submit their copays to UUSB with a note in the memo line stating the money is for a Hersey Copay.
Additional program fees for specific camps, such as for rental of bicycles or canoes, room upgrades, registration of additional family members, linens, etc. are the responsibility of the participant and payment arrangements must be made with Ferry Beach.

Registration and/or Cancellations

You are responsible for all registrations and/or cancellations.

When you register with Ferry Beach, please note that you are from UUSB.
If you wish to use Hersey Bequest funds to pay for registration fees, you must apply for a Scholarship. Please fill in the appropriate form each year.
Final determination of scholarship approval or denial will be made in May. If your scholarship is denied, based on not meeting the eligibility requirements, you are responsible for paying the appropriate camp directly or contacting the camp to cancel. If fees are incurred due to delayed cancellation, you are responsible for those fees.
