~ Frederic Henry Hedge ~

The title of an old rock song by The Clash provides the inspiration for a sermon on Bangor’s most famous minister, Frederic Henry Hedge. As many of you probably know Hedge was one of the early leaders of the Transcendentalists, and their famous discussion group was given the name Hedge’s Club. He went to Bangor in 1835 with some misgivings. It was even said he was exiled there, but then he stayed for fifteen years. Hedge was often caught in the middle of conflicts over church and theology and where he was going to call home. Decisions about coming, staying and going are never easy. Can Hedge’s life help us with these conflicts?

Rev. Drew will be away from March 10-17 at an Insight Meditation Retreat.
Every Sunday, we share half of our undesignated plate offerings with an organization that works toward our UU values. In March, half of the undesignated funds in the plate will go to MUUSAN. The Maine Unitarian Universalist State Advocacy Network is a statewide advocacy and public policy network anchored in our Unitarian Universalist faith and animated by its principles. This legislative ministry links Maine’s 22 Unitarian Universalist congregations to promote just, humane laws and policies in keeping with our UUA Seven Principles.
We have an option to give online through Vanco. You can give a one-time gift or set up your recurring pledge, by scanning the QR code to the right or visiting https://bit.ly/ 2x6uhaP. You can also find this option on our website, uubangor.org.
