2024 Raffle

We could all use a getaway, but we all know that it can be hard to find the time and money to really have a Great Getaway. This year, you could be one of two winners for The Great Getaway Raffle and make sure you only have to find the time because we will provide the money!

There will be two winners for this year’s raffle:
The Grand Prize Winner will receive up to $3,500 toward the Great Getaway of their choosing and/or design!
The Runner Up Winner will receive up to $1,500 toward the Great Getaway of their choosing and/or design!

Tickets are $20.00 each and a limit of 800 tickets will be sold. Remember, that you can sell these tickets to anyone over 18 and anywhere raffle tickets are legal in the US. Whether Seattle, Baton Rouge, Raleigh, or right here in Bangor, UUSB will work with the winner to make their Great Getaway happen.

Tessa and her partner DREAMed big! They traveled to NYC to see Hugh Jackman in The Music Man on Broadway! Then they traveled to Bryce Canyon in Utah to enjoy some luxury camping!

2019

Grand Prize Winner, dinner and trip for 2 was won by ticket #91721 – Francois Amar!
Due to COVID-19, Francois was unable to travel to Italy with his sons and we were able to transform his win into a pizza oven and a big mixer!

How to Get Your Tickets

So how do you get tickets for this amazing event? There are three different options! And a note about giving away tickets…
Only 800 tickets are available and each ticket is only $20!

1) Purchase your ticket on Sunday after the service from one of the amazing Raffle Team members!

2) Contact one of our amazing UUSB commUUnity members and purchase your ticket(s) directly from them with cash or check. You can keep them for yourself or give them as gifts.

3) Call the UUSB office and purchase your ticket(s) by check, credit card, or debit card. You can also provide payment through Vanco, by following the “Donate Now” link at the top of uubangor.org. Tickets purchased through the office will not have information sent out until payment is received, either through confirmation of a card payment or receipt of a check. Ticket receipts and number can be provided by mail or email. Original copies of tickets can not be sent by mail, but can be picked up at the church by appointment during office hours.

Note: If you wish to give tickets out as gifts, please provide their information on the ticket stub. Stubs include the recipient’s name, phone number, and email address. If you are purchasing through the office, please provide your information as the purchaser, as well as the recipient’s name. 

Note: Ticket stubs must be legible to be valid entries.

RULES

  1. Organization:
    1. The 2024 “Great Getaway” Raffle is being sponsored by and organized by the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor (the UUSB), a non-profit religious organization located at 120 Park Street, Bangor, Maine.
    2. All proceeds from this raffle shall be used to support the religious and community programs offered by the UUSB.
  2. Purchasing of tickets:
    1. Tickets may only be sold, purchased, and redeemed by adults (18 years of age or older).
    2. ALL MEMBERS OF THE UUSB, the Raffle Committee, and the UUSB Council are explicitly allowed to purchase raffle entries. This is a community fundraiser and too many of our members are involved in this raffle program to be excluded.
    3. Ticket sales start on or after 10:00 AM on November 5, 2023, and will stop at 10:00 AM (EST) on January 14, 2024.
      1. Purchasers wishing to purchase tickets by mailing a check should confirm that raffle tickets are still available. Payment must be received prior to 1:00 PM on 1/13/2024 to be included in the drawing.
      2. Mailed payments received after the 1/13/2024 mail is delivered will be returned.
    4. **Tickets may be paid for by cash, personal check, bank check, money order, or credit/debit card transaction. All checks MUST have “Raffle” in the memo line.
      1. Note, credit/debit card transactions need to be processed directly by the church office.
    5. Raffle tickets, by US law, may not be mailed.
    6. Sorry, no sales to Alabama, Hawaii, or Utah (all forbidden by local state law).
  3. Tickets:
    1. No more than 800 tickets will be sold for the 2024 UUSB “Great  Get-Away”  Raffle.
    2. Ticket cost is 1 ticket for $20.00 US.
    3. No facsimile or copies of tickets will be accepted.
    4. Winning tickets will be inspected for authenticity prior to award.
    5. Each raffle ticket must have the ticket holder’s name and phone number and/or email address clearly written on the ticket.
    6. The IRS takes the position that no portion of the ticket price will qualify as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes.
  4. Drawing:
    1. The drawing shall occur at 11:15 AM on Sunday January 14, 2024, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor, 120 Park Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Should circumstances beyond UUSB’s control prevent having the event at said date and time, the makeup drawing date will be posted on the website as soon as possible.
      1. Should a delay in the drawing occur, the sale of tickets may not occur after 10:00 AM on 1/14/2024.
    2. Winners need not be present to win.
    3. One winner per household.
    4. Winners and winning ticket numbers will be posted on the website no later than 5 days after the drawing date.
    5. Two winning tickets will be drawn on 1/14/24 as well as one runner up for each, should the winner be ineligible or otherwise unable to accept the award. Runner up tickets will be sealed and placed under lock until 2/13/2024 at which time they will be opened, and the runner up(s) notified. Illegible runner up tickets will not be notified and subsequent runner ups selected until such time as the prize(s) have been awarded.
  5. Forfeiture of ticket rights:
    1. Ticket holders misrepresenting themselves, including their age, and upon inspection do not meet the minimum criteria to legally purchase tickets will forfeit their claim to any winnings.
    2. Ticket holder’s information is illegible. If such information is unable to be rendered from the ticket and for whom the winner is not present at the time of drawing, the winning number(s) will be posted by number on the raffle website for 30 days and if unclaimed by 2/13/2024 the ticket holder will forfeit their claim on the winning ticket and a runner up will be awarded the prize.
    3. Winning ticket(s) holders whom the UUSB Raffle Committee cannot contact and who do not contact the office by 2/13/24, will forfeit their claim on the winning ticket and the next runner up will be awarded the prize.
    4. Payment failed.
      1. Payment by check was returned for whatever reason as failed and not corrected by date of the drawing.
      2. Payment by credit or debit methods was returned as failed and was not corrected by date of the drawing
      3. NOTE: Failed payments are still owed to the UUSB as promises to pay.
  6. Prizes:
    1. Great Getaways
      1. 1st prize total value not to exceed $3,500.  The UUSB Raffle Committee will work with the winner to coordinate the prize implementation. 2nd prize total value not to exceed $1,500.
      2. Purchases must be completed within the same calendar year of the raffle drawing, no later than 12/31/2024.
      3. The UUSB Raffle Committee is not responsible for accommodating requests that are not possible within the time frame required.
      4. The ”Great Getaway” winners are entitled the following prize options:
        1. Any combination of excursions or events not to exceed $3,500 for the First prize winner or not to exceed $1,500 for the Second prize winner. If costs exceed the awarded amount, UUSB is only liable for the awarded amount.
            1. “Great Getaway” options include suggested package excursions or custom designed travel packages. 
               The following items are excluded from the “Great Getaway” Raffle prize options: alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, firearms, cash, and/or cash equivalents.
          2. Prize winner may include multiple options, but may not exceed 5 total transactions with an accumulated value of no more than $3,500 (Prize 1) or $1,500 (Prize 2).
          3. Unincorporated Independent Contractors will be required to submit a W9 for payment.
      5. Any unused portion of the prize remains the property of the UUSB for use in furthering its programs.
      6. No part of the winnings will be provided as cash or equivalent.
      7. The “Great Getaway Raffle“ winners may transfer the winning chance to any other legally eligible person before or after the drawing date. All other rules will apply to the new winning chance holder(s).
  7. Winner Responsibilities:
    1. Winners are responsible for any and all tax implications for winnings associated with this raffle. The UUSB will not withhold any tax payments associated with this raffle. Any winner receiving a prize equal to or greater than $1,000 will need to provide an IRS W-9 to the UUSB office, as well as clear identification such as a license, passport or state ID.
    2. Winners will be posted on our website, along with details of their prize.
    3. The UUSB is not liable for any loss, injury, death, accident, theft, illness, or other misfortune of any nature whatsoever incurred during the fulfilling of this raffle. By accepting the winnings or any portion of the Prize, the Winners release UUSB, its employees, trustees, agents, and attorneys from any and all obligations to the Winners and any and all claims or causes of action that may exist against UUSB, known or unknown, as well as any such obligations, claims, or causes of action arising from the Winners’ acceptance of the Prize. The UUSB makes no warranty whatsoever, express or implied, with respect to the prizes.
    4. Winners will receive an IRS W-2G, report of winnings, for use in their tax preparations.
