JOB POSTING: Part-time Sabbatical Minister
Salary: $11,500.00
Professional Expenses: $500.00
Time Period: February 2023 to July 2023 (6 months)
Work Hours: Approximately 10-12 hours per week
Location: Bangor, Maine
The Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor is looking for an experienced Minister to cover our Minister’s Sabbatical during the period of February 2023 to July 2023 working approximately 10-12 hours per week. We are a Welcoming Congregation of 140 members and many friends. Our Sunday Services are currently multiplatform with the minister being in our sanctuary at 120 Park Street, Bangor, Maine while a Zoom technician runs a live feed for members that can’t or do not wish to meet in person.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead worship service twice a month – as well as Easter service. This includes preparing a PowerPoint presentation and working with our music director to select hymns and music.
- Meet monthly with:
- Worship Committee – for up to 2 hours to reflect on any practical elements of worship and to plan upcoming worship services.
- Council – to provide ministerial support, inform the Council of any needs of staff, Worship Committee and/or Pastoral Care, and help provide UU resources as needed. The Council meets the third (3rd) Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm for approximately 2 hours. However, the Sabbatical Minister may only need to attend the beginning of the meeting. Meetings are currently being held via Zoom.
- UUSB staff – to check in and see if staff needs any support – deferring any provision of support to the congregation. The Sabbatical Minister may need to provide some support for staff conflict and consult the Council to find resources for resolution.
- Pastoral Care Team – to be aware of pastoral care needs arising in the congregation. The Sabbatical Minister would only engage in visitation at the request of the Pastoral Care team or Council for emergency situations. The pastoral Care Team meets the third (3rd) Wednesday of each month at 2:30 p.m. for approximately 1.5 hours.
- Communications:
- Writing a monthly Minister’s column in the Chalice and Chimes.
- Writing monthly service descriptions for Chalice & Chimes.
- Be available to meet with Membership Fellowship Committee and participate in the New Member class to answer questions about UU ism. The next class is scheduled for April 2023.
- Writing a monthly Minister’s column in the Chalice and Chimes.
Other Contractual Responsibilities:
- Memorial Services: $300.00 per service (paid for by the congregation)
- Weddings: $350 per service (paid for by the congregation)
